Snow Day!!

>> Wednesday, February 2, 2011

These pics are mostly for the grandparents, since most of y'all either also played with your kids in the snow today or aren't super interested that I did. With about 20inches of snow total and drifts up to 5ft deep, once the snow stopped and the sun came out it was the perfect day for a snow adventure. We stayed outside for almost an hour- climbing through the drifts and sliding down our little hilll! The boys were having a blast... and so was I! See for yourself....

Caden didn't want to be left out of the shoveling fun... even toddlers have to clean off their cars.

Oh these two sweet little faces! This snow may be around awhile but seeing these boys smile makes this mama's heart melt.
Sliding down the little hill in our back yard- on their bellies. I offered them the sleds but they were having too much fun this way. I have to admit that I joined in the fun too. :)

LOVE these boys and LOVE snow days!!!

And the Snow Begins to Fall...

>> Monday, January 31, 2011

After a lovely evening coffee date with two very lovely ladies, I walked out to see the beginnings of a fabulous winter snowstorm. Don't get me wrong, I am a Florida-girl through and through. I would take the beach over snow any day. Except that I actually really LOVE the snow. To see it falling and blanketing the ground is almost as peaceful as listening to the roar of my ocean waves. (I said, almost y'all!) But snow is very serene and beautiful and almost cleansing.
I don't so much love driving in it or seeing it piled up in parking lots and along the side of the road. But tonight, as it begins to fall, I want to just stand and let the cool flakes hit my tongue. It makes me feel care-free, like the whole world is standing still in that moment.

We are supposedly getting about 2feet of snow in the next few days which, to me, is kinda cool. I am praying for not enough snow to make my boss keep me at work overnight but enough to cancel school for Lucas on Wednesday so we can have a fun snow day, just me and my boys. Watching at the window, sipping something warm, playing Batman by the fire, making a wintery craft....

I really do love the snow!

Snow Day

>> Thursday, February 18, 2010

A snow day is usually a day where kids get a break from the normal routine and structure of a school day. They get to let loose and build snow-men and slide down hills and have snow-ball fights. Well, today I had my own little snow day. It didn't snow today or even last night. In fact the temps were even a bit warmer today than in previous days and the sun was shining brightly with not a cloud in the sky. But Caden hasn't been feeling well and now has an an ear infection with high fevers so I decided to stay home with him today and not go to work. Deep down, I think I needed a little reprieve from my new job which has been WAY more stressful and taxing than I anticipated. And today turned out to be just the little break from my routine that I needed.
I loved getting to take Lucas to school without the pressure to hurry to get to work. I got to linger a bit, help organize the school library a little and watch Lucas build a huge airplane hanger with blocks. Caden and I ran some errands including a craft-supply run for some crafts I want to do with the boys and for our church. I got back to L's preschool early enough to see them all playing outside in the snow. They had their snow shovels and saucers out and were having tons of fun in the snow. It was medicine to my heart to watch Lucas having fun with his preschool friends. Caden played with his ball in the snow nearby and I sat and watched with a ginormous smile. Later, as we walked back to the car, we took our sweet time and the long way around. And sweet time it was. The boys played in the snow and I joined in. We stayed nearly an hour just stomping in snow and making snow angels and throwing the ball between the three of us. It was spontaneous and light-hearted and joyous. It was a little gift from God to my some-what overwhelmed heart- an exercise in living life fully despite lack of sleep and the mental to-do list looming over head.
Thank you Lord for this snow day. It was truly a breath of fresh air and a marvelous time with my little boys. Sweet, snowy fun!

Jingle Be... - The Reprise

>> Sunday, December 13, 2009

In honor of our recent snowfall and just because this video makes me laugh, I am reposting a video of Lucas from last winter. We were playing in the snow and he started singing "Jingle Bells." He got a bit distracted when he heard some birds flying over head. It is hysterical! You gotta watch his eyes and his facial expression. So funny! Enjoy!

Winter Wonderland- Wordful Wednesday

>> Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Although we have had a few flurries already, tonight was the first real snowstorm of the season. It started over night and we awoke to an inch or so of snow on the ground this morning. It snowed lightly off and on all day but really started to pick up this evening. I was driving home from work and was struke by the absolute beauty of the snow. The flakes were ginormous, easily the size of quarter.
If you know me, you know I am a Florida girl through-and-through. I wear flip flops as long as possible (I wore them yesterday) and could easily be convinced to join a cult that involved beach-worship. But on nights like tonight, I appreciate the beauty of this snowstorm. The white, fluffy snow falling is so serene. Of course, I didn't have to drive in it very far. :)
I can't wait to get my boys out in this snow tomorrow. Let the winter fun begin!!

Getting Out

>> Thursday, February 19, 2009

After naps today, Lucas came up to me with his coat in one hand and snow boots in the other. "I need to get out," he said. I couldn't agree more! It has been a long winter. So even though it was about 25degrees outside, we bundled up and went outside to play. The air was cold, but watching him run in the yard and play warmed my soul. I forgot how much 20-30min of outdoor play really breaks up the afternoon and burns excess toddler energy. Hurry up Spring!! Lukey wants to play (and Mommy too)!!

Is that not the cutest little snow lion you have ever seen? He even roars! :)

Jingle Be....

>> Tuesday, December 2, 2008

As soon as the snow began to fall on Sunday afternoon, Lucas started begging to make a snowman. I promised him that during Caden's morning nap on Monday we would play out in the snow. So we did. It was so fun to be outside and not so cooped up. We made snow angels and attempted a snowman but Lucas kept knocking it down so we didn't get very far. As he sat in the snow, I asked him to sing a song about snow. He started singing "Jingle Bells" but got a little distracted about half way through. Maybe Hubby and I are the only ones who will find this video funny, but it is too cute not share (chubby cheeks in a winter hat... always good for a smile!). Watch his facial expression change 1/2 way through as he is trying to sing the song but also satisfy his curiosity. He is such an amazing, adorable yet sometimes exasperating child.

Did you see it? Did you laugh? :)

I know I am behind the curve on the whole Advent thing. But I do have some posts lined up for this week on how we are celebrating and some tips for you too. Right now I have to fold the multiple loads of laundry I did at 2am after Lucas threw up several times. Oh, motherhood. :)

Cold weather fun

>> Friday, February 1, 2008

The temps are low and there is a LOT of snow of the ground, but we are still finding ways to have fun and keep ourselves busy. Enjoy some pics of Lucas (and mommy) trying to pass the time until spring!

Lucas shoveling snow before we got several more inches last night. I might as well put him to work, right?! :)
A rare moment when they are both quiet- Lucas and Hadley watching the snow fall.
He decided he wanted to put on ALL our winter apparell.
Nothing like a little "nakie" time!

First big snow

>> Thursday, December 6, 2007

We had our first big snow of the season two days ago. A good couple inches which has left the ground covered in crisp, white snow making it feel all the more like Christmas is coming! the morning after the snow fell, Lucas looked out the window of our bedroom and said "WOW! Daddy, no!" (no = snow). I took Lucas out to play in the snow for the first time yesterday after nap. He wasn't sure what to do at first but then started getting into it. We made a little snowman and I tried to teach him about snow angels. We may have to save that for the next big snow. For now, we'll just enjoy our little winter wonderland while the snow is fresh and clean and beautiful.

Here is a video of Lucas in the snow. Don't feel obliged to watch. It's mostly for the grandparents. He is cute trying to build a snowman though. You also get a glimpse of my naughty little Beagle. So if you want to see my cute baby and my cute puppy, or you just need a taste of beautiful winter snow, proceed! :)
